Christmas tree goes up in Darlington ahead of lights switch-on

The Christmas tree is up in Darlington town centre, ahead of the big lights switch-on taking place on Thursday, November 24th, 2016.

Hosted by TFM’s Steve and Karen, the entertainment begins at 5pm in the Market Square, where they will be joined by Majestic panto star Bre Musiq, local singer Olivia Kate Smith and Santa himself.

The switch-on is sponsored by Feethams Darlington, who will be celebrating their first ever Christmas in the town. They will be handing out samples and offers from its establishments throughout the evening.

Feethams Darlington will be holding further entertainment after the light switch-on, including street theatre, music and food stalls.

The Christmas light switch-on coincides with late night shopping in town, with the Christmas market and stores open until 7pm.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “Many thanks to Feethams Darlington for sponsoring our big lights switch on.

“Festive fever is already sweeping the town centre with fantastic window displays and lots on offer in our shops and market. The lights switch-on is a great time to come down and get a real flavour and excitement of Christmas.”
