Cannon and Ball, Ray Quinn and Sandi Toksvig are among the big names visiting Darlington Hippodrome, as part of the theatre’s winter season.
The new season begins on Friday, September 7th, 2018 with the world premiere of “The Great Joe Wilson” – a new production from top North-East playwright Ed Waugh.
During the winter months, Darlington Hippodrome will be hosting a number of week-long touring shows, including “Duet For One” (September 18th – 22nd), “Summer Holiday” (September 25th – 29th) and “Rock of Ages” (October 8th – 13th).
Other week-long shows include “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” (November 6th – 10th), “The Full Monty” (12th – 17th November) and “Cilla The Musical” (20th – 24th November).
Fancy a laugh? There’s comedy from Cannon and Ball in “The Dressing Room” (September 11th), Jasper Carrott and Alistair McGowan (November 18th), prankster Lee Nelson (November 30th) and Sandi Toksvig (January 11th).
Music lovers can enjoy “The Magic of Motown” (September 14th), “The Real Thing” (October 19th), “Maximum Rhythm and Blues” (November 26th), “80s Mania” (November 28th) and “Beyond the Barricade” (November 29th).
There are also tribute shows to the likes of ABBA, Adele and Neil Diamond in “ABBA Mania” (October 20th), “Someone Like You” (November 27th) and “A Beautiful Noise” (December 1st) respectively.
“Britain’s Got Talent” finalists Flawless dance their way to the Darlington Hippodrome on September 15th, and there’ll be more singing and dancing in “This Is The Greatest Show” on October 17th.
Also in October, the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company presents three classic savoy operas, “Iolanthe” (October 1st), “Ruddigore” (October 2nd) and “The Pirates of Penzance” (October 3rd).
Darlington Operatic Society return to the theatre with their production of the much-loved family musical “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (October 24th – November 3rd).
And, of course, no winter season is complete without the annual family festive pantomime. This year’s production of “Aladdin” (December 8th – January 6th) stars Louis Spence, Zoe Birkett, Robin Askwith, Eric Potts and Liam Mellor.
Meanwhile next door at The Hullaballoo, there’s stand-up comedy from Steve Bugeja (October 9th) and Matt Richardson (November 24th) as part of their UK tours.
There’s also live music from Flossie Mallavialle (October 21st) and The Black Sheep Frederick Dickens (November 23rd), as well as a talk from expeditionist Pip Stewart (November 6th)
