Darlington Operatic Society will be marking the 50th anniversary of the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” film release by bringing the classic musical to Darlington Hippodrome.
Directed by Joanne Hand with musical direction from Steven Hood, Darlington Operatic Society’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will feature sensational sets and stunning special effects, as well as the memorable score by the Sherman Brothers, which includes “Truly Scrumptious”, “Me Old Bamboo” and the Oscar-nominated title song.
Joanne Hand, who previously directed the society’s productions of “Strictly Musicals 2” and “Monty Python’s Spamalot”, said: “Directing such an iconic show is a great opportunity, a thrilling challenge for any director.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a brilliant adventure story, filled with classic songs and scenes that hold so many memories for so many people. I cannot wait to bring the show to Darlington audiences.”
Julian Cound, chairman of Darlington Operatic Society, said “We are honoured to be bringing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Darlington Hippodrome and into the lives of thousands of theatregoers.
“We are one of a select number of theatre companies across the UK to be offered this rare opportunity. Our production will enthral lovers of the iconic and beloved film and introduce Chitty to new audiences yet to discover her in the metal so to speak.”
Cound added: “This is going to be a truly scrumptious production and once again we are delighted to present another theatre first here in Darlington.”
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” runs at Darlington Hippodrome from Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 until Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. Tickets will go on sale soon.
