Darlington residents urged to book electric blanket safety test

Residents in Darlington are being urge to book for a free electric blanket safety test, ahead of the colder months.

Previous tests have shown that, on average, one third of blankets tested are unsafe for use.

The free testing of electrical blankets for Darlington residents will take place on Monday, September 17th, 2018 and Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 at Age UK Darlington on Beaumont Street West.

The safety checks, which will be conducted by a qualified engineer, have been organised by Darlington Borough Council’s Trading Standards Team, in conjunction with Age UK Darlington and the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.

If you, or someone you know, uses an electric blanket to keep warm over winter, you can book an appointment by calling 01325 362832.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Cabinet member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “This is a valuable service that saves lives and the testing is free of charge for Darlington residents.

“It is important to ensure your own safety and help elderly loved ones and neighbours by booking an appointment to have those electric blankets checked.

“Places go quickly for this popular event so act now and ring to secure your place.”
