A brand-new exhibition space will be installed and launched in the Darlington Market, after funding was secured from a small arts grant.
Following a successful application to Darlington for Culture, twelve exhibition boards have been purchased to enhance the event space within the Victorian Market Hall.
The new exhibition space will provide a venue for artists, colleges, schools, local groups and art societies to exhibit their works.
A spokesperson for Darlington for Culture said: “The Darlington for Culture Small Grants Scheme has supported a variety of projects since it began in May 2017 and we’re pleased to help support this new exhibition space.
“The display boards will provide an extra opportunity for artists to exhibit their work and will add an extra dimension to the town centre for visitors and shoppers to enjoy.”
“There are so many talented individuals and groups creating original and exciting exhibitions in Darlington and a real appetite for chances to share and enjoy great art, craft and creative practice around the town.”Stephen Wiper, manager of Creative Darlington
With the new exhibition boards, the market will be looking to incorporate and celebrate town centre heritage, railways, local artists, and people, as well as current or topical subjects.
Stephen Wiper, manager of Creative Darlington, said: “There are so many talented individuals and groups creating original and exciting exhibitions in Darlington and a real appetite for chances to share and enjoy great art, craft and creative practice around the town.
“We’re delighted that a new exhibition facility is being developed within Darlington Market and to see a new space to enjoy work emerge within the town centre.”
