New late-night bar set to open on site of former music shop

A new late-night bar is set to open on the site of a former music shop in Darlington town centre after planning permission was approved.

Known as The Gate, the new bar will be situated on 41-42 Blackwellgate, which was previously home to JG Windows.

According to the plans, which were submitted to Darlington Borough Council in June, The Gate will transform the retail unit into a late-night bar, complete with a DJ box and a dance floor.

The venue will house an extensive beer garden, complete with outdoor bar covered by a canvas marque, and serve food, which will be prepared in the on-site kitchen.

There are also plans for the new bar to be accessible to the disabled, with the installation of a new non-slip disabled ramp and disabled toilets.

The Gate is the brainchild of Mustafa Babat, who also owns the Uno Momento restaurant over the road from the new venture.

No opening date for The Gate was given.
