The logo for DL1 – the new name for the Feethams Leisure Complex – has been officially unveiled ahead of the relaunch event in April.
As What’s On Darlington revealed in February, the leisure park has undergone extensive redevelopment work over the last couple of months.
As part of the work, the podium level has seen the installation of a pergola structure with retractable roof and planters, new pop-units have been installed and a new mural has been painted on the side of the building.
To mark a new era of the leisure complex, which is home to Bella Italia, Estabulo, Mangobean, Nando’s, Subway, The Woollen Mill, The Chinese Buffet, Premier Inn and the Vue cinema, a rebrand “was seen as a necessity by all parties involved”.
The name DL1 was agreed following discussions, consultations and local focus group meetings.
A spokesperson for DL1 said: “Whilst the link to the development’s postcode is an obvious one, the decision to rename the scheme DL1 was more emotionally driven and comes from a strong sense of pride in place born out of research.”
They continued: “The brand is direct, down-to-earth, chatty and fun. DL1 is a friendly cornerstone of the community – not some standoffish corporate entity.
“DL1 does not speak in grandiose edicts from on high; it will give you a friendly nudge to let you know about fun things it has in store.”
DL1 will officially launch on Saturday, April 6th, 2019, as part of the Feethams Darlington New Look event.
The day will see a programme of free entertainment including music and dance performances, as well as the official cutting of the ribbon by the Mayor of Darlington, Veronica Copeland.
