Panto stars to turn on Darlington Christmas lights

Shirley Ballas and Daniel Taylor

Darlington Hippodrome pantomime stars Shirley Ballas and Daniel Taylor will turn on the town’s Christmas lights, it has been revealed.

The duo, who are appearing in “Jack And The Beanstalk”, will officially launch the festivities in Darlington during an event in the Market Square on Sunday, November 24th, 2019.

In previous years, the event has been held on a Thursday evening. However, Darlington Borough Council has moved the Christmas light switch-on to a Sunday to allow the event to become a “full family fun day”.

Shirley Ballas, who is a head judge on “Strictly Come Dancing”, will star as Mother Nature in the pantomime, which arrives at Darlington Hippodrome in December 2019.

The Queen of Latin is no stranger to the role, having previously starred in the same pantomime at Liverpool Empire Theatre in 2018, where she made her pantomime debut.

Having danced since the age of seven, Shirley has taken the dancing world by storm, going on to become a 3 time ‘British Open to the World’ Latin American Champion, 10-time US Latin American Champion, and multiple-times British National Champion.

By 21, Shirley had won nearly every major title she competed in worldwide.

In 2017, Shirley Ballas was confirmed as the head judge on “Strictly Come Dancing”, taking over from Len Goodman.

Meanwhile, actor and comedy writer Daniel Taylor is appearing as the evil villain Fleshcreep.

On stage, he is best known for his portrayal of Sammy in “Blood Brothers”, Mickey in “Down the Dock Road” at the Royal Court, Tommy Cooper in the critically-acclaimed “The Tommy Cooper Show” and as John Lennon in the off-Broadway production, “Lennon – Through a Glass Onion”.

“Jack And The Beanstalk” is at Darlington Hippodrome from Friday, December 6th, 2019 until Sunday, January 5th, 2020. Tickets are available from the box office on 01325 405405 or from the Darlington Hippodrome website.
