Roadworks in Darlington expected to cause traffic delays

Motorists in Darlington will face traffic delays starting from next week as roadworks are set to begin on four sites in the town.

The four sites include McMullen Road, Carmel Road South, Strait Lane – Hurworth and Faverdale Industrial Estate.

McMullen Road

Northern Gas Networks are carrying out works to divert a gas main on McMullen Road. To complete the work, the road will be closed from the Haughton Road junction up to Red Barnes Way.

An alternative route will be signed via Haughton Road, Haughton Green, Stockton Road, A66, Tornado Way and vice versa.

Expected Duration: 4 weeks

Carmel Road South

As part of the Story Homes Development at Blackwell, sewer and water connections are required that will result in deep excavations in the carriageway of Carmel Road South.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place 24 hours a day to provide a safe working area for site operatives and road users.

Start Date: Monday, July 23rd, 2018
Expected Duration: 4 – 6 weeks

Strait Lane – Hurworth

Sections of Strait Lane will be closed to for road surfacing works. The sections of Strait Lane to be closed include:

  • From Emerson Road junction northwards to its junction with Sanderson Road
  • From Sanderson Road junction northwards to the end of Strait Lane.

Only one section will be closed at a time. Diversion routes will be signed accordingly.

Expected Duration: 3 days

Faverdale Industrial Estate

Faverdale North will be closed to through traffic from its junction with Faverdale to the junction with Faverdale West for essential maintenance works. Access will be maintained to businesses only via Rotary Way.

A diversion route will be signed via Faverdale, West Auckland Road, Rotary Way and vice versa.

Expected Duration: 1 week
