Thoroughly Modern Millie tour cancelled due to ‘low ticket sales’

The UK tour of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” has been cancelled, one week before the show was due to arrive in Darlington.

The company behind the play, which starred Hayley Tamaddon (Coronation Street, Dancing On Ice), blamed the collapse of the tour on poor ticket sales, putting the company in financial difficulty.

A statement from the company said: “We are extremely sorry to have to announce the cancellation of the UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

“This has been caused by lower ticket sales than expected, which in turn has put the company producing the show in financial difficulties and they are no longer able to continue with the tour.

“The show was wonderful, and received excellent reviews as it toured the UK, but despite this, ticket sales were not strong enough to maintain the viability of the show.

“Our hearts go out to the brilliant cast of the show, who sang and danced their hearts out to bring Thoroughly Modern Millie to audiences all over the country. Sadly, and regretfully, the show is now cancelled.”

The statement added: “We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this cancellation will cause everyone who was planning on seeing the show.”

The tour began in March and was scheduled to run through to July, with dates in Bradford, Wolverhampton and Darlington.

A spokesperson for Darlington Hippodrome said: “Everyone who has booked tickets to see Thoroughly Modern Millie at Darlington Hippodrome will be contacted by the theatre.”
