A Darlington town centre busker has donated his day’s takings to replace a vandalised tree on High Row.

In October 2019, dozens of new trees were planted in Darlington town centre to improve and enhance the area for shoppers and visitors.

However, within days of them being planted, one of the trees on High Row was vandalised.

Following the news, a town centre busker, who does not want to be named, insisted the money they made on on Monday, October 14th, 2019 should help pay for a replacement tree.

Councillor Paul Howell, cabinet member for leisure and local environment, said: “This is a very generous gesture and, on behalf of the town, I’d like to say thank you.

“It was devastating to see the mindless vandalism over the weekend but this shows the best side of the people of Darlington and ensures the vandals don’t get the last word.”
